Lolle Smit Lolle Smit was the director of Phillips Radio in the Balkans, He helped Colonel Howie communicate with the Allies after his escape from a prison camp. Smit's assistance to the British was mainly in the area of communications, and he was a helper (possibly more) who had fled to Romania by 1944, at the most crucial time in Hungary. He was not known to Gabor Haraszty, head SIS agent in World War II Budapest. Smit assisted Gerrit Van der Waals after the young Dutch officer escaped to Hungary.
